Emulgel is a medicine also widely known as Diclofenac. Emulgel belongs to a class of medicines called NSAIDs (or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines). Like most NSAIDs, Diclofenac reduces the number of hormones that are known to sometimes cause pain and inflammation. These two symptoms can be caused by ankylosing spondylitis or by arthritis.
Emulgel is a drug that is prescribed in the treatment of some bothersome symptoms (such as pain and swelling). However, Emulgel can also be prescribed for other purposes that have not been mentioned here.
Contraindications
A treatment with Emulgel might increase the patient's risk of dangerous circulations or heart disorders (this includes stroke and heart attack). Taking the drug for a prolonged period of time can increase this risk. You should not take Diclofenac before or after a heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft).
Taking Emulgel is known to increase the patient's risk of serious intestines or stomach side effects (these include perforation and bleeding). Such conditions are sometimes lethal and they can sometimes occur without a warning during a treatment with an NSAID drug. Elderly patients are more prone to experiencing such disorders.
You should not start taking Emulgel if you are allergic to Emulgel or to any other NSAID. Before you start a treatment with Emulgel you must inform your personal physician if you have:

- A history of stomach bleeding or stomach ulcers;
- A history of stroke, heart attack, or blood clot;
- Asthma;

- Nose polyps;
If you are suffering from any of the conditions that have been listed here, you may not be allowed to start taking Emulgel or you may need to take in a lower dose of Emulgel. Your doctor should monitor you intake of Emulgel to see how your body reacts during the treatment.
Emulgel is a category C FDA pregnancy drug. Therefore, taking Emulgel during pregnancy could harm a growing fetus. If you are pregnant, or if you are planning to be so soon, you should ask for a doctor's opinion before you start taking Emulgel.

Intake Guidelines
Ask your doctor how and for how long you should take Emulgel. You should not disobey any of the instructions (advices) that your doctor has given you. You can also rely on the instructions that should be written on the drug's package. In most of the cases, Emulgel is prescribed in its tablet form, but there are cases in which it can be prescribed as suppository. The tablets are taken with a glass of water, and after taking it, it is important not to lie down for about 20 minutes. Also important is to swallow the tablet whole, without crushing, chewing or breaking it, because it is specially designed to release the medicine slowly. The suppository form of Emulgel is inserted up into the rectum, after removing the foil that wraps it. This procedure has to be performed while the patient is lying down on one side, after the suppository has been moistened with cold water. After it has been inserted, it must be left there for at least one hour in order to be fully absorbed. Dosage
Ask your personal physician to tell you the dose of Emulgel that you should take in during your treatment. You must not alter the dose that he or she prescribes you in any way.
Overdose
The average symptoms of an overdose with Diclofenac usually include vomiting, nausea, drowsiness, stomach pain, bloody or black stools, coughing up blood, fainting, shallow breathing, or coma. If you think you are suffering from an overdose with Emulgel, you are probably in need for immediate medical care. You should contact your local poison control centre as soon as you can.
Missed Dose

- Rapid weight gain;
- Swelling;
Other less severe Emulgel side effects are:
- Blurred vision;
- Dizziness, nervousness, headache;
- Gas, bloating;
- Skin rash or itching;
- Upset stomach, stomach pain, mild heartburn, constipation, diarrhea;
Other side effects that have not been listed here can occur. Alert your physician immediately if you experience anything bothersome or abnormal during your treatment with Emulgel.
